The Great Gatsby gets a new trailer

After many tweets and Facebook status’ about the brand new upcoming Great Gatsby trailer – today is the day, it’s here! The glitz and glamour of the ’20s radiates throughout the 2.44 minute clip, showing much more detail in the plot (although you must know the plot surely, book lovers?) and then there’s the soundtrack of course. There’s this guy named Jay-Z (you may have heard of him) who just so happens to be the executive producer and features the likes of Beyonce, The XX, Lana del Rey and Florence  + The Machine. This of course gives a complete contrast to the 1920s era, and could possibly worry hardcore fans of the classic novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Although I am a fan of the book, I do think the soundtrack works well and will give the film a slight edge.

Seeing a further glimpse into the incredible costume design is a real pleasure and I’m sure is the last teaser before the film release this May – my review will be uploaded as soon as I’ve seen it!

Visually the film looks stunning – I particularly like Leonardo DiCaprio’s (who plays Jay Gatsby) colour palette – it’s so varied. The guy loves a good suit and the array of different colours is impressive – there’s monochrome, pastels and neutrals but I’m definitely a fan of the pastel pink number which is similar to one worn by Robert Redford in the 1974 adaptation. Also, isn’t Carey Mulligan the perfect Daisy? Her dresses make me envious. I’m sure costume designer Catherine Martin will be hugely praised on her designs once the film is released for all of us to see.

More to come on the costume designs after the UK release date on the 16th May.

The countdown to The Great Gatsby

It may come as no surprise to most of you how excited I am (and have been for a long time) about the upcoming Baz Luhrmann film, The Great Gatsby.

Last Summer I was literally counting down the few months left until the December 2012 release … and then it got delayed. That was a sad, sad day. I’m over it now, kind of.

Here were are in February 2013 and with only a few months until the May 2013 release, I find myself watching the teaser trailers over and over again. I often find myself with Florence and the Machine – Bedroom Hymns in my head, one  song from the very impressive soundtrack.

Being utterly obsessed with 1920s fashion, I regularly think about what it would be like to go back in time and be surrounded by the class and glamour of this era, a very Woody Allen – Midnight in Paris way of thinking about things, I know. Although the power to control time would be my first choice if I had any super power, I have other means of being transported back to this wonderful time, one of course being the glitzy and glamourous movies.

Thankful for the photographs, articles and trailers that have been surfacing the web, I’ve been able to have a sneak peak into the films costume designs until the 17th May 2013 release date.

Get excited.
